في الله والدين

يتوجب على الماسوني أن يلتزم باطاعة القوانين الاخلاقية، واذا ادرك جيداً مفهوم "الفن"، لن يكون ملحداً غبياً ولا طائشاً بلا دين. ولكن، مع ان في الازمنة القديمة، كان يتوجّب على الماسون أن يكونوا في كل بلد، من دين هذا البلد او الامة، أياً كان هذا الدين. فاليوم إعتُبر من الملائم إلتزامهم فقط على هذا الدين الذي يتوافق عليه كل الناس، ان تترك لكل فردٍ آراؤه الشخصية الخاصة، يعني ان يكونوا رجال خيّرين صادقين، او رجال شرف واستقامة مهما كانت طوائفهم وايمانهم الديني الذي يميزهم، بالتالي، تُصبح الماسونية "محور الوحدة" ووسيلة لعقد صداقة مخلصة بين الناس الذين كان من الممكن ان يبقوا على بعدٍ ابدي.

 

 

OF GOD AND RELIGION

A Mason is obliged by his Tenure, to obey the moral law; and if he rightly understands the Art, he will never be a stupid Atheist nor an irreligious Libertine. But though in ancient Times Masons were charged in every Country to be of the Religion of that Country or Nation, whatever it was, yet ‘tis now thought more expedient only to oblige them to that Religion in which all Men agree, leaving their particular Opinions to themselves; that is, to be good Men and true, or Men of Honour and Honesty, by whatever Denominations or Persuasions they may be distinguished; whereby Masonry becomes the Center of Union, and the Means of conciliating true Friendship among Persons that must have remained at a perpetual Distance.


CONCERNANT DIEU ET LA RELIGION

Un Maçon est obligé, par sa tenure, d'obéira la loi morale et, s'il comprend bien l'Art, il ne sera jamais un athée stupide ni un libertin irréligieux. Mais, quoique dans les temps anciens, les Maçons fussent astreints dans chaque pays d'appartenir à la religion de ce pays ou de cette nation, quelle qu'elle fût, il est cependant considéré maintenant comme plus expédient de les soumettre seulement à cette religion que tous les hommes acceptent, laissant à chacun son opinion particulière, et qui consiste à être des hommes bons et loyaux ou hommes d'honneur et de probité, quelles que soient les dénominations ou croyances qui puissent les distinguer ; ainsi la Maçonnerie devient le centre d'union et le moyen de nouer une véritable amitié parmi des personnes qui eussent dû demeurer perpétuellement éloignées.
